He had a sister, Gildina Passos Gil Moreira. He has tied the knot four times. First, he married Belina Aguiar in 1965 and had 2 daughters, Nara and Marilia. Then he married the second time to Nana Caymmi in 1967, and they separated in 1968. His third wife was Sandra Gadelha and they had three kids, Pedro, Preta, and Maria. Gil started playing music in childhood and joined his first band in his teenage. He initiated his career as a bossa nova musician and started writing songs that echoed a focus on political consciousness and social activism. In 1960’s Música popular brasileira and tropicália movement, he was the lead character along with Caetano Veloso. In 1964, the Brazilian military regime seized power, perceived Gil and Veloso as a menace, and asked them to emigrate. After some time Gil returned to his country and started again his musical career.
