Svetlana developed a passion for being an athlete when she saw Oksana Omelianchik winning the world championship. She got inspired and started practicing gymnastics with full focus. career after retirement

She decided to retire in 2004, after the Olympics. After her retirement, she changes her path from being an athlete to a politician. Since her retirement, she has been playing the role of vice-president at the Russian Gymnastic Federation.

After having a successful career as an athelet, she also shines in politics. She acts as a member of the International Federation of Gymnastics Athletes’ Commission from 2005 to 2008. Along with this, she was elected to the Russian State Duma (Parliament) in 2003 and 2007. In Duma’s Youth Affairs Committee, she is deputy chairwoman.

She also took part in some media. In 2008, she was a gymnastics commentator on the channel Russian TV station NTV+. Olympic Winter Games, held in Sochi, Russia, Khorkina was an ambassador of it in 2014.

Her talents did not finish here; she also published two books. The first one was published in 2008. It was her autobiography with the name Somersaults on High Heels in 2008. The second book is related to fitness, which she published in 2009 with the title of Fitness for the Body and Soul). 

She is currently a major driving force of CSKA, a football club in Moscow.
